
Acetate Tow / Cellulose Acetate Tow is a synthetic fiber material made from natural cellulose (usually derived from wood pulp or cotton linters) through acetylation and spinning. Due to its excellent filtration performance, good processing adaptability and biodegradability, acetate tow is widely used in cigarette filters, textiles, medical and non-woven fabrics.
The main components of acetate tow are cellulose diacetate (Cellulose Diacetate, CDA) or cellulose triacetate (Cellulose Triacetate, CTA), of which cellulose diacetate is more widely used in industry. The material has high whiteness, good toughness, stable chemical properties, and its key indicators such as filtration efficiency, suction resistance (pressure drop) and hardness can be optimized by adjusting the production process.
Manufacturing process
Raw material preparation
Cellulose source: High-purity wood pulp or cotton linters are usually used as raw materials.
Acetylation reaction: Cellulose is reacted with acetic anhydride under the action of a catalyst (such as sulfuric acid) to produce cellulose acetate.

Preparation of spinning solution
Cellulose acetate is dissolved in organic solvents such as acetone to form a viscous spinning solution.

Dry or wet spinning
Dry spinning (mainstream process): The spinning solution is extruded through the spinneret, and the solvent evaporates in hot air to form continuous filaments, which are then made into tows through processes such as bundling, stretching, and curling.
Wet spinning: The spinning solution enters a coagulation bath (such as water or organic solvent) to solidify and form, which is suitable for acetate fibers for certain special purposes.

Post-processing
Twisting and curling: Improve the cohesion and fluffiness of the fiber, making it more suitable for subsequent processing (such as cigarette filter rod molding).
Drying and packaging: Remove residual solvents, ensure product stability, and cut and package according to customer needs.
