Features
Physical and chemical properties
Ingredients: The main ingredients are cellulose diacetate or cellulose triacetate.
Appearance: White or light yellow filamentous fiber bundles with a silky luster.
Density: 1.28-1.32 g/cm³, slightly heavier than ordinary synthetic fibers.
Melting point: about 230-300℃ (decomposition temperature).
Hygroscopicity: The moisture absorption rate is about 6-7%, which is lower than cotton fiber but higher than polyester fiber.
Mechanical properties
Strength: Dry strength is about 1.2-1.5 g/denier, and wet strength is slightly reduced.
Elongation: Elongation at break is about 20-30%, with a certain toughness.
Abrasion resistance: Moderate, suitable for filter processing but not suitable for high friction environment.
Functional characteristics
Filtration performance: The fiber structure can effectively absorb harmful substances such as tar and nicotine.
Thermoplasticity: The filter can be shaped by heating to improve the hardness and stability of the filter.
Degradability: It can be partially biodegraded in the natural environment and is more environmentally friendly than pure synthetic fibers.
Production process
Raw material preparation
Use high-purity wood pulp or cotton linters as the cellulose source.
After bleaching, drying and other pre-treatments, ensure the purity of the raw materials
01
Acetylation reaction
Cellulose reacts with acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst (such as sulfuric acid) to produce cellulose acetate.
Reaction conditions: temperature 30-50°C, time several hours.
02
Dissolution and filtration
Dissolve cellulose acetate in organic solvents such as acetone to form a spinning solution.
Filter to remove impurities and ensure that the spinning solution is uniform.
03
Spinning molding
Dry spinning (mainstream process): The spinning solution is extruded through the spinneret, and the hot air evaporates the solvent to form continuous fibers.
Wet spinning: Less used, suitable for products with special specifications.
04
Post-processing
The fiber bundles are washed, stretched, curled, dried and other processes to improve their mechanical properties and uniformity.
The final product is cut and packaged according to specifications
05

Development Trend
Environmentally friendly acetate fiber: develop products with lower solvent residue and higher biodegradability.
Replacing traditional plastics: exploring applications in packaging and non-woven fabrics.
Functional improvement: special performance tows such as antibacterial and antistatic.
Application Areas
Cigarette filters (main application)
About 90% of the world's acetate fiber tow is used in cigarette filter manufacturing.
Advantages: good adsorption, soft taste, easy processing
01
Textile industry
Used to make high-end linings, underwear, wedding dresses, etc., with silk-like luster and comfort
02
Medical materials
Used as surgical sutures, dressings, etc. due to their good biocompatibility.
03
Industrial filter materials, non-woven fabrics for cosmetics, etc.
