Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) is a non-ionic, water-soluble polymer, presenting as a white or light yellow, odorless powder. It can dissolve in both cold water and hot water, and the dissolution rate increases with the rise in temperature. It has good pH stability, with very little change in viscosity within the pH range of 2 to 12. HEC has high salt tolerance and hygroscopicity, as well as strong hydrophilicity and water retention ability. The aqueous solution of HEC has surface activity, and the high-viscosity hydroxyethyl cellulose powder also has high viscoelasticity.
