Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural cellulose through chemical modification (etherification). It has the characteristics of water solubility, film-forming property, and adjustable viscosity, and is widely used in the pharmaceutical, food, building materials, daily chemical and other industries.
HPMC production process
1. Raw material processing:
- Cellulose (wood pulp/cotton) is alkalized with NaOH solution to produce alkali cellulose.
2. Etherification reaction:
- React with methyl chloride (methylation) and propylene oxide (hydroxypropylation) in an autoclave.
3. Purification:
- Neutralize and wash to remove by-products (such as NaCl), and crush after drying.
4. Grading:
- Classify according to parameters such as viscosity and degree of substitution (such as pharmaceutical grade, food grade, industrial grade).
