Products Description
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose ether, is a nonionic cellulose derivative. It appears as a white or off-white powder and is soluble in water and some organic solvents. Its aqueous solution exhibits high transparency and surface activity, with its gelation temperature varying depending on the methoxy group content.
HPMC is a core dispersant in the suspension polymerization production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It reduces the interfacial tension between the monomer and water and modulates the resin particle morphology to improve processing performance. It can replace traditional dispersants and form composite systems with polyvinyl alcohol. HPMC is also used in the building materials industry as a water-retaining agent for cement mortars and tile adhesives, as a thickener and stabilizer in the coatings industry, and in the pharmaceutical industry for tablet coatings and sustained-release formulations. Its technical specifications include a methoxy group content of 28-30%, a hydroxypropoxy group content of 7-10%, and a solution viscosity range of 3-50 mPa·s, meeting the needs of various industries, including building materials, chemicals, and daily chemicals.
Products usage

This product is used as a thickener, dispersant, adhesive, excipient, oil-resistant coating, filler, emulsifier and stabilizer in the textile industry. It is also widely used in synthetic resins, petrochemicals, ceramics, papermaking, leather, medicine, food and cosmetics industries.

Products features
Water Solubility: HPMC readily dissolves in cold water, forming a clear solution. It also exhibits surface activity.
Thickening: HPMC can significantly increase the viscosity of a solution, making it an effective thickener.
Water Retention: HPMC exhibits excellent water retention, preventing premature drying and improving application performance.
Film-Forming: HPMC forms tough, flexible, and transparent films and is commonly used in tablet coating and food packaging.
Surface Activity: HPMC aqueous solutions exhibit surface activity and can act as a protective colloid, emulsion stabilizer, and dispersant.
Thermogelation: HPMC aqueous solutions undergo gelation when heated to a certain temperature and return to a solution upon cooling. This property can be used to control drug release.
pH Stability: HPMC exhibits good stability within a certain pH range (e.g., 3.0-11.0), and the viscosity of its aqueous solutions is unaffected by pH.

Advantages
HPMC has excellent water retention, thickening, suspending, binding, film-forming, dispersing, and surface activity properties.
