Acetate fiber is a regenerated cellulose fiber made from natural cellulose through esterification reaction to produce cellulose acetate (mainly diacetate cellulose) and then solution spinning. According to the degree of acetylating, it is divided into primary acetate fiber (mainly triacetate cellulose) and secondary acetate fiber (i.e. diacetate cellulose), the latter of which is most commonly used in textile and tow production.

Production process
 

 

Raw materials
The main raw material of acetate tow is high-purity natural cellulose, usually obtained from wood pulp

Esterification reaction
Wood pulp fiber undergoes esterification reaction with acetic anhydride, acetic acid, etc. under the action of catalysts to produce triacetate cellulose

Partial hydrolysis
Cellulose triacetate is partially hydrolyzed to cellulose diacetate to improve its solubility and spinning performance.

Dissolution and Filtration
Use acetone solvent to dissolve cellulose diacetate to form a uniform spinning solution, which is then filtered through multiple stages to remove impurities.

Dry spinning (dry spinning)
The spinning solution is extruded into a high-temperature airflow through dry spinning equipment to evaporate the solvent and form the fiber.

Tow Drafting and Crimping
The fibers are drafted to increase strength and mechanically crimped to increase volume and softness.

Drying and oiling
Dry the tow and add an appropriate amount of oiling agent to reduce static electricity and improve processing performance.

Packaging finished products
The tow is cut, compressed, and packaged into certain specifications and exported as a commodity.

 

Physical properties

 

 

Wide range of linear density: the tow can be made into different linear densities as required, such as 2.5Y, 3.0Y, 3.3Y, etc.

Good length consistency: precise drafting and cutting control ensures uniform fiber length;

Stable curl: using thermomechanical curling to maintain high elasticity;

Soft luster: The surface is smooth and has a silky luster;

Comfortable touch: The fiber is delicate and soft, and has good skin-friendliness;

 

Moderate hygroscopicity: Although slightly lower than regenerated cellulose, it is still better than synthetic fibers;

Good thermoplasticity: suitable for hot pressing and post-processing

Chemical properties

 

Strong light resistance: more stable than viscose fiber, not easy to turn yellow under sunlight;

Good heat resistance: can be thermoformed within a certain temperature range;

Strong solvent resistance: insoluble in most aqueous solutions, but soluble in acetone and chloroform;

Strong dyeability: easy to color and can adapt to a variety of dyes
