The basic raw materials of acetate fiber tow are acetic anhydride and natural cellulose. Natural cellulose is usually taken from cotton linters or wood pulp, especially high-purity cotton pulp, which is the preferred raw material for producing high-quality acetate fiber. Its composition includes:
Cellulose acetate: produced by the esterification reaction of natural cellulose and acetic anhydride.
Plasticizer (such as triacetin TAE): improves fiber softness and spinnability.
Additives: may include openers, antistatic agents, fragrances, etc. to improve product performance.
The degree of substitution of cellulose ester is a key indicator to measure the performance of acetate fiber. Common ones are diacetate cellulose (DS≈2.5) and triacetate cellulose (DS≈3.0). Among them, diacetate cellulose is the main form of manufacturing acetate fiber tow.
Production process
Raw material preparation: Select high-purity cotton pulp, dry, crush and screen it, and control the fiber particle size and moisture content.
Esterification reaction: Dry cotton pulp is reacted with acetic anhydride and a catalyst to produce cellulose acetate.
Dissolution and spinning: The esterified cellulose is dissolved in acetic acid or other organic solvents and then made into long acetate fibers by dry-jet wet spinning.
Tow bundling: Individual fibers are gathered into bundles and treated with plasticizers.
Stretching and shaping: Control the physical properties of the tow, such as strength and elasticity, through heat stretching equipment.
Opening and packaging: Cut or roll the fiber tow to the required length and package the finished product for transportation
