Acetate Tow for Tobacco is a high-performance cellulose-based filter material treated with acetic acid designed to enhance cigarette filtration and the smoking experience. It effectively adjusts the pH of smoke, reduces irritation and improves taste while maintaining a smooth draw experience.
This specialized tow has excellent filtration efficiency, capturing harmful tar and particulate matter without compromising airflow. Its uniform fiber structure ensures consistent performance in high-speed cigarette manufacturing.
Key Benefits:
Improved Taste – Neutralizes alkaline smoke components for a milder taste.
Controlled Filtration – Balances tar retention and ventilation.
Manufacturing Efficiency – Compatible with standard filter manufacturing machinery.
Quality and Safety – Meets industry standards for purity and performance.
Acetate Tow is ideal for premium tobacco products, helping to deliver a refined smoking experience and reliable quality.
Features
High filtration efficiency: can effectively intercept harmful substances such as tar and nicotine.
01
Good processing performance: easy to shape, suitable for high-speed cigarette making machine production.
02
Non-toxic and environmentally friendly: Compared with synthetic plastic fibers, acetate fibers are partially biodegradable.
03
Stable physical properties: high temperature resistance, tensile resistance, suitable for different climatic conditions.
04
Production process
Raw material preparation
The main raw material of acetate fiber tow is wood pulp, which is purified and reacted with acetic anhydride to produce cellulose diacetate.
01
Acetylation reaction: Wood pulp reacts with acetic anhydride under the catalysis of sulfuric acid, and the hydroxyl group (-OH) is replaced by the acetyl group (-COCH₃) to form cellulose acetate.
02
Spinning process
Dissolution: Cellulose acetate is dissolved in acetone to form a spinning solution.
Dry spinning: The solution is extruded through a spinneret, and hot air evaporates the solvent to form continuous fibers.
Bundling: Monofilaments are combined into tows (Tow), usually with a specification of 3.0Y/40,000 (3.0 denier, 40,000 monofilaments).
Curling and shaping: Increase fiber bulk and improve filtration efficiency.
03
Plasticizer addition: such as triacetin, to improve the flexibility of the yarn
04
Slitting and packaging: Cut into different widths (such as 5mm, 8mm) according to customer needs.
05
Application Areas
Choose the plan that suits you best.
Cigarette filters
Traditional cigarettes: account for more than 90% of the global demand for acetate fiber tow.
Slim/ultra-slim cigarettes: require higher density tow (such as 1.5Y).
Medium cigarettes: balance filtration efficiency and draw resistance.
01
New tobacco products
Heat-not-burn (HNB): High-temperature resistant acetate fiber is used in products such as IQOS.
E-cigarette filter: Some brands use acetate fiber instead of cotton core.
02
Medical filter materials: such as masks and blood filters.
03
Industrial filter media: liquid or gas purification.
