The daily storage method of liquid silver mercury mainly includes the following points:
Choose a suitable container: When storing liquid mercury or mercury-containing solutions, double-layer sealed containers, such as glass bottles or polyethylene containers, are preferred. The inner layer uses a frosted bottle stopper to ensure airtightness.
Storage environment: The storage location must be protected from light and the temperature must be constant. The ideal temperature should be controlled between 15-25°C and avoid being close to heat or vibration sources. A conspicuous label should be posted on the outside of the container, indicating the words "highly toxic" and the storage date.
Safety measures: In a laboratory environment, it is recommended to set up an independent storage cabinet, and place a sulfur powder adsorption layer at the bottom of the cabinet to prevent accidental leakage and spread. Mercury-containing items (such as mercury thermometers) should be placed in a locked drawer out of the reach of children at home, and equipped with an emergency treatment kit containing sulfur powder, rubber gloves, plastic shovels and other tools.
Validity period: The storage time of mercury stock solution is affected by concentration and storage conditions. For example, when the concentration of mercury stock solution is 100 mg/L, potassium dichromate can be added and placed in a 4°C refrigerator for 6 months. If the concentration is diluted to 100 ppb, the shelf life may be only one day.
Through the above measures, liquid silver mercury can be effectively preserved to ensure its safety and stability.
